Learn how to help kids establish
healthy lifestyles early
Childhood obesity has become a state and national concern. The number of overweight children in the U.S. has tripled since 1980. In 2006, more than 1 in every 6 of Ohio 3rd graders were affected by obesity. That means that 35% of our 3rd graders are at an increased risk of weight related health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Health problems are not the only problems caused by obesity. Overweight and obese children suffer from bone and joint pain, have low self-esteem, suffer with depression, have fewer friends and are also victims of bullying.
Obesity is a curable problem. There are many ways that we can put an end to this national epidemic. Good habits are formed early. Ohio4Kids offers training sessions for parents and child care providers on menu planning and establishing healthy habits.
