Recipes for winter arts and crafts
These recipes for homemade paints will give children an opportunity to explore and create frosty winter scenes.
Magic crystals:
- 2 Cups of water
- 2 Cups Epsom salts
- Food coloring optional
In a saucepan, combine the water and Epsom salts. Bring to a boil. Stir the mixture and allow it to cool. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring. Let the child paint with this mixture on construction paper. The paint will dry to create clear or colored crystals.
Salt paint (no cooking):
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon liquid starch
- A few drops of tempera paint
Mix the ingredients together. The salt gives a frosted appearance to the paint.
