Are teething gels dangerous?
Using teething gels that contain benzocaine can lead to serious illness. The blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia has been linked to pain relievers that contain benzocaine, an ingredient found in many teething gels. The United States Food and Drug Administration reports that even low concentrations of benzocaine can increase the risk of this disorder.
