Rules for bicycle safety

Reviewing the rules for bicycle safety can be a fun activity, especially if you have a bike available for children to demonstrate and practice the skills:

What you need: paper plates, finger paint, paper, leaves

Obey all traffic signs and signals.

Ride single file on the right side, with the flow of traffic.

Ride in a straight line. Don’t do stunts.

Use proper hand signals when in traffic.

Slow down and look carefully before crossing intersections.

Be alert. Watch for other vehicles.

Don’t shoot out of alleys and driveways.

Give pedestrians the right of way.

 Don’t carry another rider.

Don’t hitch onto cars and trucks.

Be sure your bike has good brakes and a warning bell.

If riding at night, have a headlight on the front and a red reflector on the back.

 Always wear a helmet.
